Fulfilling the Great Commission by raising Christ-centred disciples to plant vibrant, biblical churches in our cities and countries all over the world

Each year, as we come together to celebrate the church’s anniversary, we give thanks to God for the blessings He has poured on the church. This year was extremely special for Hope Melbourne as not only were we celebrating 20 years of God’s blessings upon us, we were also privileged to have many of the pioneers of Hope Melbourne with us to celebrate this special day as our anniversary service was held directly after the Melbourne Global Conference.

Our venue was the Monash University Clayton campus. This was the first testament of God’s goodness to us as we had finally been able to establish CCM on the Clayton campus after trying for nearly 20 years. More than 400 members came together from the 4 Melbourne centres as well as a number of international delegates from the Global Conference on this day to glorify God and to give thanks for His blessings upon our 4 centres.

We had the opportunity to acknowledge members who had been with the church for more than 10 years and to even meet various pioneers of the church 20 years ago, some of whom have pioneered other churches themselves, such as Pastor Wilson and Lai Ling and Pastor Brendan. We had the privilege to have Pastor Denis’ wife, Hai Eng, share her testimony about how she came to be involved with HIM as a student in Melbourne, and going back to help with Hope Kuching, that Pastor Denis leads today. We were also blessed with photographs from various leaders from the early days of Hope Melbourne, especially with the wedding pictures of Paul and Poh Eng Cattermole, who were the first couple to be married in the church.

Ps Ian shared about the future direction of Hope Melbourne. Then Pastor Simon Eng gave a presidential address on the Parable of the Sower, challenging all of us to have hearts like that of the good soil; and if any of us were in either rock, shallow or thorny ground, the call was to migrate to good soil. Pastor Denis then blessed us with the sermon that day. Based on Philippians 3:13-14, he encouraged us to get to move on with God’s vision and to commit to building His church. All in all, it was a truly memorable and enjoyable day and we look forward to many more years ahead with God leading the church.
